How Can I Be Sustainable?
While Wikipedia and other sources define sustainable living as any persons attempt to reduce usage of personal and environmental resources, it's actually much more than that, and it's surprisingly easy to get involved! When we take a closer look at sustainability, we see that it's not really a reduction of resources that we're aiming for. Since the population is only continuing to grow larger, the usage of resources must begin to expand as well, or there will be no support for our future generations.
This means that we should look for ways to generate smarter or free energy. We should look for ways to teach our children how to produce for themselves, and to contribute to society. While there are a lot of complicated and influential ways these things can be done, most people can find smaller, equally important ways to step in and make a change. It could be as simple as starting a vegetable garden in the back, carpooling or taking a bike to work, taking a fun and educational camping trip with the family, or even just minding the amount of water you use.
Be the Change You Are Seeking
With so many ways to make the world a little more sustainable, you can assume that each one is not for everyone. Sometimes you have to make small steps to reach the goal that you can really see yourself doing. Some people just aren't ready to make the change that the world needs, but it's up to the rest of us.
If you're reading this, you're on the way. And you probably already know some ways how you can do your part. It's all about living mindfully, and thinking about the impact you will have made after we've left this Earth to our children. What will you have left behind?
