Are You Really a Hippie?

While it's obvious that the cliche from the 60's has no shortage of usage here in today's age, there are a few differences between classic hippies and today's modern hippie. Free love for everyone has progressed to loving every living creature, and you can pretty much be interested in any kind of music nowadays, but vintage is still better and the Beatles still rock hard which means the essence of the hippie is still the same.

So what is a hippie? The classifications normally used for them, like lovers of the Earth, and ganja smokers, can be used to classify a broad range of people, and frankly, you don't have to do all those things to think of yourself as a hippie. As long as you have an open mind to the way of the hippie, the way of others, and a love for taking it as it comes, you can take part in the wayward journey of a hippie. With that said, I've compiled a short list of some generalizations of hippies, if one or two of these suit you, you might be fit for living adventurously.

1. The Outdoors are Your Indoors

Whether it be for climbing trees or strolling through the park, you just feel more at home when you're in the great outdoors. But really, who could say they don't enjoy the feeling of a nice warm breeze and the sun on their skin?

2. Your Animals are Your Children

Hippies have an innate love for all living things. If you've had pets, you probably know how easy it is to find yourself treating them like your children. Hippies act this way with ALL animals. Some even go so far as to become vegetarians, or vegans, although not all of them.

3. You Love the Earth

We all come in different shapes and sizes, and there are over 1.6 billion of us, but the Earth never judges, and provides for us all. If you've realized how lucky we are to be on this planet, and you don't take it for granted, you're already on your way to hippie-dom. Others take the path by being environmentalists, or tree-huggers.

4. Never Mind the New, In With the Old

If you've ever worn a shoe to nothing, or re-purposed anything, you've got the idea. Vintage always looks better anyways, and who has money for anything when it keeps getting spent on weed?

5. You Have the Mind to Legalize

For a hippie, it's common sense that the next big change in the U.S. is cannabis legalization. From advancements in paper and clothing, to medicine and fuel, cannabis is on the fore-front of modern science, and us hippies are always the first to push for change.

6. Mushies, LSD, and Peyote are Better Than Candy

The psychedelic scene has always been a staple of hippie life, but it seems to have been picking up steam in modern day U.S.. With drugs getting stronger and easier to find, much more people consider taking a different kind of trip, and many find some spiritual experience or health benefit.

7. You Know That Life Always Gets Better

The most important aspect of the hippie is their love for life. We only have one and the hippie knows just how special that is. The most you can do as a hippie, is to make everyday unique and special.

Just is just a general list that is mostly based off of myself and fellow hippies I know. If you're curious to find out more about me, you can follow this link.
